Disney adapting Superman for their Hercules movie clearly shows they weren't comfortable depicting the violent, rash and arrogant Hercules of Greek mythology in their children's movie. In order to make their movie, Disney appropriated the characters and story of Superman but placed it in Greece. This decision results in the Greek elements mostly being glossed over. The Olympians are barely introduced, the Titans are reduced to elemental monsters, and most of the monsters Hercules fought in Greek mythology such as the Nemean Bull are defeated in a montage. Disney was also hoping to appeal to young Superman fans, fans of Greek mythology and fans of Rocky, the Karate Kid and Midnight Cowboy by blending all everything together. Ultimately, Disney sacrificed originality for marketability.
